Following a recent spate of high-profile company administrations, we open this Bulletin discussing the Euler Hermes Global Insolvencies Index which has revealed how in 2018 the UK is set to witness the second largest global increase in insolvencies. When linked with the latest bank lending figures, it looks like 2018 is turning out to be a challenging year.

Alternative lenders are continuing to announce the allocation of funds specifically focused on supporting small businesses. We look at funding pots set aside by Iwoca and Metro Bank designed to assist regional and national small businesses.

Late payment is a continual challenge for small businesses and a recent survey carried out by Zurich lays the blame at the door of the larger businesses. We share the findings of this latest research and what you can do to combat suffering from late payers.

With many people being uncertain about the current performance of the UK economy, one measure of confidence is the amount businesses are borrowing from the banks. I lift the lid on the latest Bank of England bank borrowing figures to see what businesses are up to.

To close this Bulletin, we share some recent experiences which highlight why you need to keep a close eye on your credit file. Lenders place a lot of emphasis on a clean report so it pays to keep your file in order.

With the Brexit negotiations now officially under way, what happens now for small businesses? In this week’s Business Finance Bulletin, with a degree of uncertainty ahead we look at how businesses and banks will face the future.

One industry which has seen change over the last few years is that of TV production. The Media team at Barclays Bank has announced a new fund designed to alleviate cashflow problems facing production companies with the advent of Streaming Video on Demand.

Finally, we take our monthly look at the latest bank small business lending figures released by the Bank of England. Whilst the most recent figures to February show an increase, overall the trend is in the opposite direction. Why is that?
