Equity crowdfunding has broken a record with the news that Crowdcube has raised the largest sum on the platform to fund its own business growth plans. In this Bulletin we look at the deal and how Crowdcube is supporting other businesses looking to raise finance.

Sole traders and small businesses that deal predominately in cash can suffer from bad debts just the same as any other business. We look at how many businesses are faced with walking away from money owed to them and how mobile payment services such as that offered by Paym can help.

As Peer to Peer lending and crowdfunding grows in popularity, what impact is it having on the UK economy? That’s a question asked in a survey undertaken by the Centre for Economies and Business Research in conjunction with Funding Circle. We look at the key findings and what benefits businesses are gaining from raising finance via this route.

In the latest episode of the Business Finance Bulletin a review of the findings from the recent Small Business Finance Market Report. Released by the British Business Bank the report reveals that bank lending to SMEs is on the up and shares the sources of finance being used by small businesses.

Do you know the true of your business loan? That’s a question being posed by Growth Street, the alternative overdraft provider, as it calls for more transparent pricing via the introduction of an APR for SMEs.

Receiving payments via mobile phone may still be relatively new but we look at news from Paym, the mobile phone payment provider, on how usage of their service is rapidly on the increase.

And in the Business Finance Tip of the Week how a calculation taken from your Balance Sheet can test the strength of your solvency.

In this episode of the Business Finance Bulletin Rob Warlow from Business Loan Services reviews the government’s latest moves to curb late payment by launching a consultation paper on the creation of the proposed conciliation service.

Late payment often affects the small time trades sector who can get caught by having to wait many weeks when customers don’t have sufficient cash with them to settle bills. Rob looks at new mobile payment service designed to combat this problem.

Turning to crowdfunding, Rob has news of initiatives brought out by ReBuildingSociety and Funding Circle to boost awareness and usage by both businesses and investors.

And in the Business Finance Tip of the Week Rob shares a salutary lesson about being prepared when it comes to raising finance.
